If you joined us last year you no doubt enjoyed Suntou’s performance on the Main Stage, as part of Seckou Keita’s Homeland Band, as much as we did!

We are thrilled to welcome Suntou back with the promise of very different but equally upbeat and uplifting set, this time on our Acorn Stage.

An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, percussionist, singer and composer from The Gambia, Suntou’s primary instrument is the kora; the 22 stringed harp unique to the Griots (praise singers) of the Mandinka people.

Suntou will bring this and many more musical delights to Folk By the Oak, along with his 6 piece band with music rooted in Mandinka musical traditions strongly infused with jazz, funk and soul.

A much in-demand and charismatic performer, Suntou’s career has gained serious momentum since the release of his self-written debut album, Kanéfonyo (Never Give Up) in 2022.

Expect an intimate yet energetic show as Suntou and his band bring you all good vibes and a life-affirming insight into his cultural heritage and musical influences.
