Lady Maisery
Lady Maisery
2023 Main Stage
Team FBTO have long been fans of Lady Maisery, closely following their artistic endeavours since they last joined us at Folk by the Oak in 2015. Having recently enjoyed a live performance, featuring material from their new album Tender, we were in no doubt that it was time to invite this hugely talented trio back to our festival. A simply beautiful way to open our Main Stage!
For those yet to experience the band, Lady Maisery comprises the combined vocal and multi-instrumental talents of Hazel Askew, Hannah James and Rowan Rheingans. Individually these are three of the most accomplished and adventurous artists in modern folk. Together they have a soaring voice rich with stories of sisterhood, humanity and the vitality of music.
Released to critical acclaim in November 2022, the long-awaited Tender comprises original songs written by Lady Maisery, sitting gently alongside contemplative and personal interpretations of work by Björk, Tracy Chapman and the late Lal Waterson, all exploring the power in vulnerability and the strength in kindness.
We can assure you that their live performance of these tracks is an experience not to be missed, and we are thrilled to be able to share this with you at Folk by the Oak!
