The Young'uns

The Youn'uns at Folk by the Oak 2018 crop.jpg

In the last few years the Young’uns have deservedly secured their rightful place at the forefront of the English folk scene. It was their rare ability to combine perfect harmonies and sparkling wit that first brought this hugely entertaining trio to our notice, and their 2015 performance on our Acorn Stage was so well received we knew that they would be returning one day to perform on our Main Stage.

That day came in 2018 when we were delighted to welcome back the Teeside trio, Sean Cooney, David Eagle and Michael Hughes, who again surprised and delighted us. They performed old favourites and songs from their latest album, Strangers , which in their own words is ‘a collection of folk songs for our times – a homage to the outsider, a eulogy for the wayfarer and a hymn for the migrant’.

We thoroughly enjoyed welcoming back these down-to-earth lads whose uplifting voices, spine tingling harmonies and raucous humour earned them BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Best Group 2 years running (2015 & 2016) and a loyal and happy following of folk fans.

The harmonies are glorious, the wit is waspish. The songs are powerful, the banter is relentless and the audience is happy. What’s not to like? ★★★★★
