Sam Sweeney Band.jpg

With just hours to go before Sam and his band were due to join us we had the devastating news that Sam had been in a car crash. Thankfully his injuries were not too serious and Sam has made a full recovery, but he was unable to perform at Folk by the Oak this year. In his stead, his hugely talented band member Jack Rutter delighted our audience with a simply incredible set. Thank you Jack!

From Bellowhead to Leveret to his new band, we are over the moon that Sam Sweeney is still producing exceptional music, and that we get to share his latest incarnation with you this summer!

Sam is releasing his highly anticipated second solo album, Unearth Repeat, on Hudson Records in March 2020, and joins us with his four piece Sam Sweeney Band this July.

Unearth Repeat celebrates a new direction, bringing together the groove and swagger of traditional English music with the sound, flare, energy and festival spirit of bands coming out of the Celtic and Scandinavian music scenes. This is Sam making music on his own terms, with a massive sound and a stellar line up of his favourite musicians: the acoustic and electric guitars of Jack Rutter and Louis Campbell and the double bass of Ben Nicholls.

Expect a set that is as eye opening as it is enthralling, and as outstanding a performance as you can hope for from one of the most prolific and talented folk artists of his generation.
