Karine Polwart is an artist of such exceptional calibre that we could barely believe our luck, as joined us in two very different guises for Folk by the Oak 2019!

A multi award winning songwriter, musician, theatre maker and author, Karine is a six-time winner at the Radio 2 Folk Awards, including 2018 Folk Singer of the Year. In October 2018 she released her seventh album, Laws of Motion, the critically acclaimed follow-up to 2017’s much-praised A Pocket of Wind Resistance

Laws in Motion is the latest in an evolving series of collaborative projects which combine music & storytelling with politics & environmental-societal issues. Its success is yet another testament to Karine’s talent and generosity in the collaborative process.

We have been honoured to work closely with Karine on our commission, The Lost Words Spell Songs. Bearing witness to her incredible abilities made us even more determined to give our Main Stage over to Karine for a solo set.

Karine's much anticipated Scottish Songbook, celebrating 50 years of pop, reveals yet another dimension to her artistry and was released in August.
