The energy and vitality that this incredible array of artists bring to the stage is something we are very excited to share with you at Folk by the Oak, and we know that this welcome return by Eliza will be one worth waiting for!
The last time we were lucky enough to have Eliza Carthy grace our main stage was part of the highly accomplished all female quartet Carthy, Hardy, Farrell and Young in 2013. We are absolutely delighted that she will be joining us again in 2018, this time with The Wayward Band.
It was also in 2013 that Eliza assembled The Wayward Band, a hugely talented group of 12 musicians from around the UK, to perform her ‘Best of’ compilation: Wayward Daughter. This winning combination of artists and their obvious on stage enthusiasm for performing together quickly ensured their place as firm favourites in the festival circuit, beloved by traditionalists and modernists alike.
Their debut album, Big Machine, recorded at Real World Studios, was released to wide critical acclaim by Topic Records early in 2017, and in November 2017 Eliza and the band embarked on their first major UK tour. The combination of traditional material pared with inventive arrangements and new work, brought to life by the many and varied talents of Eliza and the band members has ensured ongoing success for this boundary pushing project.
